Abyssinian Scholarship Opportunities

Empowering our students toward higher education and lifelong impact.

Preparing Tomorrow’s Leaders Today

Since 1945, the Abyssinian Baptist Church Scholarship Ministry has faithfully invested in the intellectual, spiritual, and professional development of our students, recognizing education as both a sacred responsibility and a generational mandate.

Rooted in Abyssinian’s historic commitment to excellence, leadership, and service, the Scholarship Ministry supports students at pivotal moments in their academic journeys through two signature scholarship opportunities. These awards are designed not merely to assist with tuition, but to walk alongside our scholars as they grow into leaders equipped to serve their communities, their professions, and the world.

For graduating high school seniors preparing to enter college, a credentialing program, or a technical-trade school, the Scholarship Ministry provides a clear pathway forward. Scholarships awarded are renewable annually, contingent upon continued eligibility, and may be renewed for up to four years, supporting students through program completion.

This multi-year investment reflects Abyssinian’s belief that transformation is not instantaneous, but cultivated over time through consistency, mentorship, accountability, and faith.

At Abyssinian, we do not simply fund education. We steward potential, affirm calling, and prepare tomorrow’s leaders—today.

Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders

As we embark on our fourth year, we are proud to announce that we launched our first class of 5 recipients of the Calvin O. Butts, III Community District 5 Scholarship. The Faith & Education Ministry of The Abyssinian Baptist Church was formalized in 2023 to empower young people through the lens of faith, purpose, and education. Rooted in Christian values and the transformative power of knowledge, the ministry provides students with resources, mentorship, and exposure to career and educational pathways that reflect today’s youth experience.
As we embark on our third year, we are proud to establish the Calvin O. Butts III Community District 5 Scholarship — honoring our beloved late pastor, whose life and ministry embodied the sacred union of faith, intellect, and service.
