Baptism

Ready to Go Public With Your Faith? Take the Next Step in Your Story

Your Faith Journey Deserves to Be Celebrated

If you've made the life-changing decision to follow Jesus Christ, baptism is your opportunity to go public with that commitment. It's not just a ritual—it's a powerful declaration that you're stepping into the new life God has for you.

At Abyssinian, we believe this moment should be meaningful, personal, and celebrated by your church family. Whether you're new to faith or ready to take this step after years of believing, we're here to support you every step of the way.

Why Baptism Matters

It's Following Jesus' Example - Jesus himself was baptized in the Jordan River (Mark 1:9), showing us the way forward in our faith journey.

It's Your Public Declaration - Baptism is your chance to tell the world that your life belongs to Christ and you're committed to living His way.

It's About New Beginnings - Going under the water represents leaving your old life behind, and coming up represents the new person you are in Christ.

It's Biblical - Throughout Scripture, we see that baptism immediately follows the decision to trust Jesus. It's not optional—it's the next natural step.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about baptism—what it means, why it matters, and how you can take this important step in your faith journey.

We get baptized because Jesus told us to—it’s one of His most important instructions to His followers! In Matthew 28:19–20, Jesus says:

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Not only did Jesus command baptism—He also modeled it by being baptized Himself (Mark 1:9).

Baptism is a powerful act of obedience. It shows that we believe in Jesus, are choosing to follow Him with our whole heart, and are turning away from sin to live a new life in Him.

Baptism is just the beginning of an amazing journey with Jesus! After you’re baptized, we invite you to keep growing in your faith—through Bible study, prayer, serving in ministry, and connecting with others.

You’ll also participate in the Right Hand of Fellowship, where we officially welcome you into the Abyssinian family.

You’re never alone—we’re here to support, encourage, and walk alongside you every step of the way. Your best days in Christ are just ahead!

At Abyssinian, we joyfully dedicate infants and young children to the Lord, celebrating the gift of their lives and committing to help nurture them in the faith.

We reserve baptism for those who are old enough to understand the meaning of salvation and are ready to make a personal decision to follow Christ. When that time comes, we are honored to walk with them as they take that powerful step of faith.

If you were baptized as a child and you understood the decision you were making to follow Jesus, there is no need to be baptized again. Baptism is a one-time public declaration of your faith in Christ.

However, if you’ve since had a deeper, personal encounter with God and feel led to reaffirm your commitment—you may choose to be baptized again as a reflection of your renewed faith.

At Abyssinian, we honor your spiritual journey and are here to support you in taking whatever step helps you grow closer to God. If you have questions, we’re happy to talk it through with you!
